28% revenue growth, less manual work and happier employees through smart automation

Why we needed to get moving

We have a thriving business, but knew there was much more to it. More growth, more profit and better service for our customers. It frustrated us that we couldn't get this done ourselves: our processes took too much time, choices in IT and marketing were lagging, and we wanted to make our organization smarter and more professional. We also saw the enormous potential of AI and wanted to lead the way. But we did not have the knowledge to make good use of this. That's why we were looking for someone who could guide us and who we could lean on. We found that in Mellius.

About us

We are Elisa Gielen (Director) and Paul Jenkins (CEO) of TinyEYE Europe, an SME based in Groningen, Netherlands. Our organization offers online speech therapy through a large network of independent speech therapists, supported by a small staff team.

The bottlenecks that slowed us down as an SME

When we met Mellius, we were in the middle of a phase where we were running into several bottlenecks:

  • Manual and time-consuming work
Our application process and scheduling required many hours daily. Employees were busy with repetitive tasks that added little value, such as updating CRM, creating customer accounts, sending emails and properly arranging financial administration (SPD).
  • Strategic uncertainty
We had big ambitions, but lacked the structure to connect strategy, tactics and operations. For example, we wanted to grow with AI, achieve more with the same number of people, expand our team of professionals and increase our client base. We also wanted to deliver more care, not only in the Netherlands but also abroad.
  • Developing our team
Our Learning & Development Specialists (LDSs) were mostly doing executive work. We saw opportunities to deploy them more on quality and process improvement, but we were not yet succeeding.
  • Supplier choices
Choosing the right IT and marketing solutions proved difficult. There were many providers, but which one really suited us?
  • Doubts about external advice
We had previously worked with consultants and external advice, but that didn't suit us. We didn't want theoretical reports or advice that ends up in a drawer, but someone who thinks and participates.
  • AI as an opportunity, but also as an issue
We saw that AI could do a lot for our processes and services, but it was difficult to determine which applications were valuable and feasible.

Our joint approach: structure, digitization and AI

With Mellius, we found just that. He brought his unique approach: a combination of analysis, advice and help with successful digital change.

What convinced us immediately was that he not only made plans, but also stood beside us in execution. He brought structure and provided connection - between generations in our team, between strategy and execution, between our company and suppliers such as IT partners and marketing agencies, and even between humans and AI. He always thinks in terms of possibilities.

Together, we took the next steps:

  1. The three-level model
Mellius introduced a framework in which strategy, tactics and operations logically fit together. This gave us direction and overview.
  2. Stronger supplier choices
A concrete example was the selection of a planning tool. Mellius made our requirements concrete, researched the options and gave a reasoned advice. Thus, we made the decision with confidence.
  3. Automating and applying AI
A big success was the automation of our application process. What used to be done manually by multiple employees is now largely done automatically. Mellius supervised this project together with an IT supplier and ensured that the solution was a good fit for our organization. In the process, we also examined how AI could help us process data smarter and reduce errors.
  4. Employee development
Our Learning & Development Specialists were given new responsibilities. Process improvements and AI support allowed them to grow from executive work to quality improvement and coaching. This gave them energy and more professional pride.
  5. Balance between flexibility and focus
TinyEYE is a dynamic organization that moves quickly. Mellius knew how to move with it, but always brought us back to the core and guarded the focus.

The tangible and tangible result: more efficient, smarter and future-proof

Our revenue increased by about 28%. That came from the improved processes, the smart deployment of AI and the sharp choices we made together. But just as important: the collaboration gave us confidence, positive energy and the feeling that we are really doing this together. Mellius is right beside us. That partnership made all the difference.

We notice this every day in our work:

  • The application process is largely automated, saving time, eliminating errors and reducing our reliance on specific employees.
  • AI helps us make processes faster and more reliable and gives us confidence to experiment further.
  • Our Learning & Development Specialists now work on quality improvement instead of repetitive work, delivering more value and contributing to structural improvements.
  • Suppliers we select in a structured way, preventing wrong choices and saving time, frustration and risk.
  • The collaboration does not feel like "external advice," but a true partnership. Instead of bears on the road, Mellius brought optimism and solution orientation, which gave us confidence - even in difficult phases.
  • He also managed to connect our experience with younger generations in our team and partners.

What we learned and what you can take away from it

Looking back, we see several lessons that are valuable to us and other companies:

  1. Faster decisions
We sometimes gave processes and people a chance for too long. In hindsight, we should have decided sooner.
  2. Staying positive and solution-oriented
Especially in difficult phases, it helps to look at what can be done. That keeps the energy high.
  3. Not wanting to do everything yourself
Things like lobbying and political contacts require specific expertise. We have to dare to buy that.
  4. Value over hours
Collaboration is not about "hourly billing." It's about results and value. That feels better and delivers more.
